Finding Meaning and Joy in Volunteering

One of the great parts of CAA is the volunteers. We are so grateful that volunteers from all walks of life agree with CAA’s mission and are willing to provide their time and skills in enrich these children and youth’s experiences. Here we have Donald, a new volunteer, share a little about how he came to find CAA and his experience with Outshine.

I am a recently retired attorney. I wanted to find some volunteer activity that would be meaningful, perhaps a little challenging, and that would bring me into contact with different people, and even be a little fun. I have found all this by joining Outshine and Friends. Outshine has met all of these expectations, and I have met some really remarkable people: Joanna, Desmond, Phoebe, volunteers and some really amazing and talented children. I started with Outshine when meetings were still in person (prior to March), and have continued with the virtual meetings this summer. Although the in-person sessions are missed, the virtual sessions are the next best thing. The energy of Joanna and how she gets all the children involved in different fun and educational activities is truly inspiring. I enjoy all the sessions, which usually includes a Zoom screenshot of everyone involved, having fun while also learning.

“Outshine and Friends truly lives up to its name, because it's a place where we make friends, and have a wonderful experience”

-Donald Moy, Outshine Volunteer
